Fort Canby escapade

So, on the way home we stopped in Illwaco for some fish & chips and chowder. Since we were so close, we decided to go see the lighthouse and try for some nearby letterboxes.


First came a hike on the Discovery Trail to be first finders on a new 'box.


"Dead Man's Cove?" - They all look alive to me!


A pretty nice lighthouse - too bad you couldn't go in.


The kids loved the ruins.


We never did find the trail or the box - and wondered around in some pretty rough territory for the better part of 2 hours. At first, it was a matter of hunting. Then it became a stubbornness/pride issue. Finally, it was just getting back to the car before tempers got going...

All-in-all, the kids did great, and were quite the troupers. I think Mary got more nervous about us being lost than the kids did!
